What makes a man?

By MarieKD

There is an overwhelming sense these days that loving Jesus is not manly. If you consider a "real man" to be 50 Cent, Kanye, Jersey Shore, and most of MTV's hottest then you are right- it's not. However, these modern men love Jesus and I dare you to question their masculinity...

Tim tells the crowds, “I found true satisfaction, true happiness, and it is not by having your name in a newspaper, it is not by winning trophies, it is not by winning championships, it is by having a relationship with Jesus Christ.” (http://www.believe.com/testimonials/Faith/Tim-Tebow/)

Left Korn to follow Christ...

"How did the band take your leaving?"

"They were upset. I didn't have the strength to look them in the eyes and say, 'I'm leaving, [but] I love you guys.' So I went home and wrote an email saying, 'I love you, I'm quitting. There's nothing to talk about. Best of luck to you. Goodbye.'

A couple of them wrote back. One of them said, 'You know, everyone's going to laugh at you because you're saying you're a Christian now.' I said I didn't care. They wanted to talk. They thought it was just a phase. They weren't that happy."

From Head's MTV.com interview on leaving Korn:

"Welch also said that for the past month, he's been trying to reach out to the other members of Korn, but has gotten little response. He said he spent his final days in Korn talking with bassist Fieldy, and had even mentioned the songs he'd been recording on his own, which reflected his growing spirituality. Fieldy was less than receptive."

Lecrae, Tedashi, Sho Baraka, Trip Lee

"Born in Cali, but raised in Texas Lecrae seeks to challenge the world with one question.
What are we here for? God created us to Glorify him. So in word, thought, and deed Lecrae’s mission is to do simply that. Understanding that Christians live as regenerate (born again) people in an unregenerate (not born again) world, he knows the odds are against him. With no ambitions of being the next big thing or dreams of fame and wealth, Lecrae simply wants to point listeners in the direction of the Cross..."

Pastor- Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church

Interview by Adrian Warnock:

"Do you sometimes feel like something of a theological misfit?"

"I AM a theological misfit and have learned to be okay with that. We are missional, which offends fundamentalists. We hold to the fundamentals, which offends the liberals. We are theologically charismatic, but not shake and bake holy rollers , which puts us in the middle of a big debate to be shot by both sides. We are reformed, but not old school, and don’t baptize babies, don’t hold to the regulative principle, and won’t die on the hill of Limited Atonement, but hold a more unlimited/limited position, which upsets both sides of the debate. In the end, I hold to a high view of inerrant Scripture and am trying to be biblical, even when it makes a mess of my systematics." http://adrianwarnock.com/2006/04/interview-with-mark-driscoll_02/

From a woman's perspective...

50 Cent is quoted as saying "A man becomes as attractive as an attractive woman when he becomes successful and is publicly noted. Power`s an aphrodisiac." http://www.quotelucy.com/quotes/50-cent-quotes.html

The men listed above are attractive for the exact opposite reason. They are hated on by many, but wise in God's eyes. Their desire to humbly serve the Lord is truly attractive.

It takes a real man to stand up to pop culture and kneel down before Jesus.

Jesus said...

“I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven." -Luke 12:8-10

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." -Luke 12:34
